Deep in the mountains of WV. Not near anything and is therefore a destination unto itself. Tight, twisting roads to get there from I-79. But - well worth a week or weekend of relaxation in the WV wilderness. Great hiking, biking, and decent fishing. The campground is well spread out and so shaded in the valley, that at 6pm, you think it's 9 or 10pm! Beautiful place!
Most everything has already been said. I would strongly urge people to get reservations. This is a very nice campground and there aren't many other choices for the area. Though it's large, all of the sites are usually taken! The weekend we were there, a Track and Field tournament was held on the grounds. Thousands of spectators and contestants, yet the campground and bath houses remained clean!
The people here are the kind you want to deal with. They were incredibly wonderful and helpful! Stayed two nights in a 36' motorhome. Had a few problems with mechanicals and they were right there with any assistance. Famously clean bathrooms, movie night for the kids, and shade to boot! The only thing I'd change is how they park all the campers and rvs back to back. It makes for more money, but a crowded campground. This campground is about 35 miles west of St. Louis and 12 miles west of Six Flags. A nice place to stay for the weekend!
Stayed here one night in a 36' motorhome. There are two campgrounds. First was full, so we stayed in the second. There was a total of about 5 families in this large state park campground. Very quiet, very shaded. Just what we like! The main downside was the lack of cleanliness in the bathrooms. Very old and showing it! We would not take a shower here. Limbs all over the sidewalk, and parking pads. What a shame, an otherwise nice park!
Nice campground. We were here for two nights while son was part of a Soccer tourney in Cincinnati. Took us about 45 mins to reach north central Cincinnati. Nothing great. I could tell there were a lot of people here for the weekend as a destination campground. I would stay here again.
